HARPY EAGLE TOUR IN
DARIEN
PANAMA
Day 1 Panama City >
Embera Village in Darien lowlands
Depart from Panama City and travel along the Pan-American
Highway toward the border of Colombia. After several police
checkpoints and Once in the Darien Province, we will have
lunch at local restaurant with simple food which consists of
rice, beans and meat (usually chicken, pork or beef). Our
day continues to Puerto
Quimba to embarck on our motorboat
transport to the Embera community. At arrival we will greet
by our local native host and the leader of the jungle
expedition and then we will proceed to the jungle camp at
the beautiful and remote Embera Village, your home for the
coming days. Dinner will be in the community.

Day 2 Darien lowlands
Early morning birding around the village and after breakfast
will go on long hike (mostly even terrain) through a
secondary growth forest birding along the way and in search
of the Harpy Eagle.
The Harpy Eagle, Panama’s National Bird and the most
powerful bird of prey in the Americas is endangered.
Controlled visits to the area are generating income to the
nearby village, which in turns creates an interest for the
protection of the birds and their habitat.
You return to the village in the afternoon to relate with
the Embera people and learn their customs and
traditions. Tonight you will sleep in the guest “Tambo”
(thatch roof stilted house). You may opt to sleep in
hammocks or screened tents with mats (provided). Night at
Embera Village (BLD)

Black-and-White Hawk-Eagle, Dull-mantled Antbird,
Stripe-throated Wren, Moustached Antwren, Olive-backed
