HARPY EAGLE TOUR IN DARIEN PANAMA

Day 1 Panama City > Embera Village in Darien lowlands
Depart from Panama City and travel along the Pan-American Highway toward the border of Colombia. After several police checkpoints and Once in the Darien Province, we will have lunch at local restaurant with simple food which consists of rice, beans and meat (usually chicken, pork or beef). Our day continues to Puerto
Quimba to embarck on our motorboat transport to the Embera community. At arrival we will greet by our local native host and the leader of the jungle expedition and then we will proceed to the jungle camp at the beautiful and remote Embera Village, your home for the coming days. Dinner will be in the community.

Day 2 Darien lowlands
Early morning birding around the village and after breakfast will go on long hike (mostly even terrain) through a secondary growth forest birding along the way and in search of the Harpy Eagle.
The Harpy Eagle, Panama’s National Bird and the most powerful bird of prey in the Americas is endangered. Controlled visits to the area are generating income to the nearby village, which in turns creates an interest for the protection of the birds and their habitat.
You return to the village in the afternoon to relate with the Embera people and learn their customs and traditions. Tonight you will sleep in the guest “Tambo” (thatch roof stilted house). You may opt to sleep in hammocks or screened tents with mats (provided). Night at Embera Village (BLD)

Day3
Darien lowlands

We'll walk several trails around the village in search of some Darién specialties, such as Black Oropendolas, Bare-crowned Antbird, Gray-cheeked Nunlet, Red-rumped Woodpecker and more. Other typical birds of the zone are Red-throated Caracaras and Laughing Falcons. This Darien-area is perfect for those looking to find species from South American origins not found in the rest of Central America. Some other special birds of the area are: Barred Puffbird, Black-and-White Hawk-Eagle, Dull-mantled Antbird, Stripe-throated Wren, Moustached Antwren, Olive-backed Quail-Dove and more.
Night: Embera Village (B,L,D)

Day 4
Darien lowlands
We'll have some time to learn more about the Embera Culture and the way they survive in the rainforest, before we take our boat out of the River. We'll leave our indigenous friends and we'll continue on our way back to Meteti and then to Panama City.
Night: Panama City (B,L,D)                          quote this tour
